From Failing CA IPCC to becoming an Investment Banker- Sagar’s Success Story

Success stories in finance often sound glamorous from the outside – prestigious roles, analytical work, impressive titles. But behind many of them are stories of doubt, struggle, financial pressure, and moments where giving up feels easier than continuing.

Sagar Rajwar’s journey is one such story. Coming from a modest background, facing academic setbacks, and dealing with uncertainty about his future, he could easily have stopped trying. Instead, he rebuilt his path step by step and is now placed as an Investment Banking Analyst at FinVal Research & Consulting.

Here’s his journey, in his own words.

Tell us a little about yourself and how your interest in finance began.

I come from a lower middle-class family and had responsibilities from a very young age. Those responsibilities taught me discipline, patience, and how important it is to work hard for your goals.

I completed my B.Com (Hons) from Delhi University and initially decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy. I couldn’t clear CA Intermediate despite sincere efforts.

There was a phase when I felt completely hopeless. When I finally decided to drop CA, it honestly felt like my life had no direction. I thought everything was over.

Around that time, I became curious about finance. When I discovered areas like valuation, financial modeling, and investment banking, I realized this was the field I truly wanted to pursue.

That’s when I joined QuintEdge, and that decision eventually led to my placement as an Investment Banking Analyst, marking the real beginning of my journey in finance.

What steps did you take once you decided this was your career path?

Once I got clarity that finance, especially investment banking, was the direction I wanted, I knew I needed structured learning and practical skills to move forward with confidence.

I had been following QuintEdge’s YouTube channel for quite some time, and after doing my research, it felt like their program perfectly matched what I needed. That’s when I decided to enroll in their Investment Banking Program.

I also made a promise to myself that this time I would give 100% effort no matter what.

What made you choose this particular program?

Honestly, one of the biggest reasons was Yash Sir. Listening to his demo lectures gave me confidence that I was choosing the right path. And then when I started learning from Sarfaraz Sir, I completely fell in love with the teaching style.

The way concepts were explained made things click for me. Over time, my interest kept increasing, and I started enjoying finance rather than feeling intimidated by it.

What were the biggest challenges you faced while preparing?

In the beginning, everything felt overwhelming. I wasn’t familiar with Excel, and most concepts went over my head. Since I was attending weekend classes that lasted six hours, it was challenging to absorb everything in one go and keep up with the pace.

To deal with this, I followed a simple approach – rewatch, revise, repeat. I used to watch the same lecture twice on the portal until I truly understood it, and the doubt sessions helped me clear concepts step by step and build confidence gradually.

The real turning point was the two-day bootcamp, where everything finally connected. I learned how to improve my resume, optimize my LinkedIn, understand how recruiters think, and present myself confidently. The mock interview was tough but eye-opening, and that preparation ultimately helped me secure the job.

How did the program and mentors help you during this journey?

QuintEdge gave me something I didn’t have before: clarity and confidence.

I went from feeling like a hopeless person with no direction to someone who knew exactly what he wanted to do. The mentors constantly supported and guided me. I’m truly grateful to the entire team- Yash Sir, Sarfaraz Sir, Abhinav Sir, Jinay Jain Sir, Anmol Sir, and everyone else who helped me grow.

They didn’t just teach concepts. They helped me believe in myself again.

What outcome did your efforts lead to?

I’m now placed as an Investment Banking Analyst at FinVal Research & Consulting, and I’m genuinely excited about the role. For someone who once felt completely lost, reaching this stage feels incredibly rewarding.

Can you share your study strategy with students who want to follow a similar path?

My strategy was simple, but it worked because I followed it with full consistency:

Lecture → Same-day Revision → Rewatch → Practice → Repeat

After every class, I rewatched lectures until everything was clear, especially technical topics, and revised financial models multiple times until I could understand them confidently on my own.

I didn’t rely on shortcuts. Instead, I focused on discipline and used every resource seriously:
• Never missed any session or resource provided by QuintEdge
• Took both technical training and behavioral interview guidance seriously
• Treated preparation like real job training, not just a course

That mindset is what truly made the difference.

What message would you like to give to students who are just starting out?

I want to tell everyone who is beginning their journey – your background does not decide your future.

I did B.Com (Hons) from DU, had a three-year gap, and was a CA dropout. Still, I cleared my interview and got placed because of one thing: discipline.

If you stay disciplined and believe in yourself, everything is possible.

Sagar’s story is a reminder that careers aren’t defined by where you start, they’re defined by whether you keep going. Clarity comes after effort, confidence comes after persistence, and success often comes after failure.
