Quick answer: CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst) fees are paid per exam, in US dollars. Level 1 and Level 2 cost USD 1,140 each if you register early, or USD 1,490 at the standard price. Level 3 costs USD 100 more: USD 1,240 early or USD 1,590 standard. There is no enrollment fee any more.
All three levels together cost USD 3,520 to USD 4,570 before tax. That is about ₹3.40 lakh to ₹4.42 lakh at ₹96.61 per US dollar (illustrative). This is the FBIL (Financial Benchmarks India) reference rate on 9 Oct 2026. GST (Goods and Services Tax) and your card's markup come on top. The calculator above adds them for you.
CFA Institute charges one registration fee for each exam. The price depends on the level and on when you register. Register before the early deadline and Levels 1 and 2 cost USD 1,140 each. Miss it and you pay USD 1,490. Level 3 costs USD 100 more at both prices. The table converts each fee to rupees at one dated rate.
| Exam | Early price | Standard price | Early in ₹ | Standard in ₹ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | USD 1,140 | USD 1,490 | ₹1,10,141 | ₹1,43,956 |
| Level 2 | USD 1,140 | USD 1,490 | ₹1,10,141 | ₹1,43,956 |
| Level 3 | USD 1,240 | USD 1,590 | ₹1,19,802 | ₹1,53,618 |
| All three levels | USD 3,520 | USD 4,570 | ₹3,40,084 | ₹4,41,530 |
Plain takeaway: budget about ₹1.1 lakh per exam if you register early, before GST and card charges.
USD means US dollars. Each fee covers your exam and the official study material on CFA Institute's online learning platform. You pay it once per attempt, not once per year.
No to both. CFA Institute removed its one-time USD 350 enrollment fee on 29 April 2025, so your first registration costs the same as any later one. It also grants no exam exemptions to anyone. A CA (Chartered Accountant), an MBA graduate and a fresher all sit the same three levels at the same price.
There is also no mutual recognition agreement between ICAI (the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) and CFA Institute. So if anyone offers a "CA discount" on CFA fees, treat it as a red flag. The only official ways to pay less are early registration and a CFA Institute scholarship.
You save USD 350 on every exam, or USD 1,050 across all three levels. The exam and the study material stay exactly the same. Think of it like booking a train ticket well ahead: same seat, lower fare. Each window's early deadline falls about seven months before the exam, so the saving rewards students who plan ahead.
Illustrative, at ₹96.61 per US dollar (FBIL, 9 Oct 2026): USD 350 is about ₹33,815 saved per level, before GST. Across three levels, that is about ₹1.01 lakh.
CFA Institute deadlines close at 11:59 pm US Eastern Time, which is the next morning in India. For every live deadline, see our CFA exam dates page.
The registration fee is the only cost you must pay. But four extras can push your bill up. A retake is a brand-new registration. Moving your exam date costs USD 250. The optional Practice Pack costs USD 299 per level. And because you pay in dollars, GST and your bank's markup add rupees on top.
Illustrative, at ₹96.61 per US dollar (FBIL, 9 Oct 2026): one Level 1 retake at USD 1,490 adds about ₹1,43,956 before GST. That is more than four times the early-registration saving on one level. Passing first time is the biggest saving of all.
CFA Institute runs three scholarships. The Access Scholarship cuts the registration fee to USD 400. The Student and Professor Scholarships cut it to USD 600. Awards made from 4 March 2026 come as a package that includes the Practice Pack. Each award covers one exam only, so you apply again for each level. CFA Institute decides who qualifies and when applications open.
| Scholarship | Your fee becomes | In ₹ | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Access | USD 400 | ₹38,646 | Candidates who cannot afford the full fee |
| Student | USD 600 | ₹57,969 | Students at universities in CFA Institute's affiliation programme |
| Professor | USD 600 | ₹57,969 | Faculty who teach relevant subjects |
Plain takeaway: an Access award cuts one Level 1 fee from about ₹1,10,141 to about ₹38,646, before tax.
Retakes and reschedules still cost the full price. Writing your application essay? Our free CFA scholarship essay evaluator gives you feedback before you submit.
Yes, if you live in India. CFA Institute adds GST at checkout, because the exam is sold as an online service from abroad. It does not publish the rate. So this calculator assumes 18% and labels it clearly. If you are GST-registered, CFA Institute offers a way to claim the GST back.
Tax rules call this kind of service OIDAR (online information and database access or retrieval). The tax shows in your basket before you pay. Untick the GST box above if you live outside India.
Illustrative, at ₹96.61 per US dollar (FBIL, 9 Oct 2026): Level 1 at the early price is about ₹1,10,141. Add 18% GST (₹19,825) and you pay about ₹1,29,966, before any card markup.
It adds up four things for each level you pick: the registration fee, any extras, GST and your card's markup. Fees and deadlines come from CFA Institute's dates and fees page, checked in October 2026. Rupee figures use the FBIL reference rate, which you can change. The result is an estimate, not a bill.
It picks the early or standard price from today's date, and you can change it. You can register for the next level only after you pass the one before. So it warns you if two levels sit too close together. FBIL publishes the reference rate that the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) website shows.

You can still register at the standard price until the window's final deadline. It costs USD 350 more per level. After the final deadline, registration for that window closes and you must pick a later window.
